This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, but chip maker Texas Instruments has announced plans to build new processors based on the next-generation plans from ARM. The next-gen ARM Cortex A series processors are code-named as Eagle and they'll be officially unveiled later this year.
At the moment, we don't really know anything about the upcoming Eagle chips. If I had to guess, I'd imagine that they'll be more powerful than current ARM-based chips while using less energy, because let's be honest… that's always a good bet in the mobile chip space.
TI's ARM-based chips typically show up in smartphones and other low power electronics devices. We could also see them in netbooks or smartbooks of the future. We probably won't see Eagle-based chips ship for another year or so.
