Netbooks with PCIe expansion slots

One of the questions I get asked every now and again is why the Liliputing Product Database doesn't show which netbooks have open mini PCI Express slots. The short answer is because this information can be rather difficult to come by unless you open up the netbook or get your hands on a detailed service manual.

Fortunately, Pcoketables Forum Member nightalon has done some of the heavy lifting by providing a handy list of netbooks available with open PCIe slots as of mid-2009. That includes the Dell Mini 9 and 10, Acer Aspire One AOD150, Asus Eee PC 1000HE, MSI Wind U100, HP Mini 1000, and a number of other models.

The list hasn't been updated since April, so it's a bit dated. Have any newer models to share? Let us know in the comments, or better yet, post your updates at the Pocketables Forum.

Oh, and if you're wondering why a PCIe slot might be good to have, you can use this internal expansion slot to add WiFi, Bluetooth, or 3G capabilities. You could also add an SSD to some computer models. Or you can pick up a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator to add HD video capabilities to an Atom powered netbook. You can pick up a Broadcom card for under $30 on eBay.
