Google recently booted most ad-blocking software for Android from the Play Store. But there's nothing stopping you from downloading and installing apps from other sources on most Android devices… so the developer of one of the most popular ad-blocking apps just updated his software to work independently of Google's store.
You can download the latest version of Adblock Plus directly from the developer's website.
Not only is the new version of the app available for download outside the Play Store, but it can also download updates without going through Google' smarketplace.
That means as new features and bug fixes are available, Adblock Plus for Android will download them itself.
Adblock Plus basically routes your internet traffic through a proxy server on your device to filter out most ads that would otherwise show in your web browser or other apps. Some apps (such as Firefox for Android) may not be supported.
Unfortunately, while Adblock Plus for desktop browsers lets you whitelist websites where you're OK with ads, that feature isn't yet available in the Android app.
