Eee PC Blog's 2009 holiday netbook gift guide

Eee pc blog netbook gift guide
Netbooks have become so many and choosing which one to buy for yourself or your loved one this holiday season has become so hard that it's not even funny. Especially if you care about making the right shopping decisions during this very critical time of the year (for shopping). So, to make your life just a little bit easier, we've put together this handy list of netbooks you should consider in the case that you are in the market for any new ones before the year ends. From the cheapest to the best, we've got it all covered. Continue reading for the full list.

Touch, move

Asus Eee PC T91
t91
Our first contenders for your Christmas cash this year come from Asus and Gigabyte, and both have touchscreen LCDs. The Asus Eee PC T91 sports an 8.9-inch LED-Backlit glossy screen @ 1024×600 which works well with Windows 7 touch input as seen in several reviews. It ships with an Intel Atom Z520 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 16GB Solid State Drive for storage and a chiclet keyboard/multitouch trackpad combo only Asus could provide. If you like to touch the stuff you work with on your computer every now and then, the Eee PC T91 won't disappoint.

Gigabyte TouchNote T1028
t1028
Here's something a little more powerful than the Eee PC T91. The Gigabyte TouchNote T1028 not only comes with a faster processor and better graphics, it also offers a larger, higher resolution screen, more spacious hard drive, and an option for a WiMAX upgrade. And it comes in coffee brown, what more could you want?

Netbooks by definition

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA
1005
OK, so you might want something a little more, I don't know, netbook-like? Yeah, well in case you do, here's one from Asus–the Eee PC 1005HA. Descended directly from the once-great Eee PC 1000HE, this Seashell netbook boasts 10.5 hours of battery life while keeping its slimness intact. It has an Intel Atom N280 processor, 10-inch 1024×600 screen, 250GB hard drive, Wi-Fi N and a gig of RAM. Be wary of its glossy screen, though.

Toshiba NB205
205
Toshiba's NB205 netbook, meanwhile, offers about the same stuff as the 1005HA specs-wise, but ends up looking more robust and packing in slightly better battery life along with a much better keyboard (according to some users). It looks like a pretty good deal all-around, until you actually go all the way around it and see the humongous bulge its 6-cell battery is making on its back.

Acer Aspire One D250
d250
Being one of the few PC makers who "started it all" for netbooks, Acer isn't going to be absent from our netbook buyer's guide. The Acer Aspire One D250 represents the no-frills, typical netbook in their ever-growing product line, featuring an N280 Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi (b/g) and a 6-cell battery. About the only thing I can fault the AAO D250 for is having Windows XP SP3 as its operating system, when most other models in this buyer's guide has some form of Windows 7. The fact that it was released way earlier than most of these other models might have something to do with it.

Netbook heavyweights

HP Mini 311
311
I use the term heavyweights for the last three netbooks in our list because compared to the first ones, these offer some significant upgrades. For instance, the HP Mini 311 netbook, which comes with a 1.6GHZ Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive like most other netbooks, packs NVIDIA's Ion graphics chip under the hood. This makes HD video playback not only a possibility, but a very convenient reality. Of course, it doesn't look as flimsy as other more affordable netbooks you might come across, too.
