Gaming PC maker iBuyPower announced Wednesday a plan to bundle free MSI Wind netbooks with a selection of gaming computers, functioning as a curious way to get student gamers and budget buyers to choose their products.
The MSI Wind U100 is the netbook in question, which will be bundled with iBuyPower's "Power Bundle" gaming rig. The systems have AMD Phenom II and Intel Core i7 CPUs and graphics cards in either ATI Radeon HD 4850/4890 or Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+GTX 285 varieties.
The PCs will have up to 12 GB of DDR3 memory, a hefty order, and will sell for a similarly hefty $1179-$1849. Bundling the MSI Wind U100 seems to give the good value, so you can keep your Power Bundle gaming computer in your dorm while carrying around the MSI netbook to class.
iBuyPower seems confident the deal will be worth your while:
"With a Power Bundle, users have more flexibility. Purchasing one laptop for both mobile and home use requires a sacrifice in both mobility and gaming power. The lightweight netbook is more portable than a 17" desktop replacement, which can weigh as much as 20 pounds and is definitely not the ideal mobile solution for taking notes in class or studying in a coffee shop. Additionally, a traditional gaming PC offers a superior graphics, processing power, and upgradability to deliver a gaming experience that cannot be matched by any notebook."
