Is HP working on a Qualcomm-powered smartbook?

qualcomm tabletMaybe. Is this 7 inch smartbook on display at a Chinese tradeshow it? Probably not. I just don't see HP coming out with a device with an ugly bezel that big. But the folks at Mobile 163 say that a Qualcomm Booth Rep booth rep at a trade show in China said what you're looking at is a smartbook being made by an OEM on behalf of Hewlett Packard.

Aside from the fact that this protoype is ugly… it's also the same machine Qualcomm was showing off at CES in January.

I can't help but wonder if what the booth rep actually said was something like "this is an OEM device that could be built for companies like HP." I haven't seen any devices looking like this 7 inch touchscreen tablet come to market yet, but Qualcomm has been showing the prototype off for close to a year now, so it might not be that much longer before we start to see computers based on this design.

Because the laptop is based on Qualcomm's ARM-based Snapdragon platform, it includes integrated graphics acceleration, a 3G modem and other wireless features.
