3G netbook bundles coming to India

Low cost netbooks may have taken the world by storm, but one place where they haven't really taken off is India. Last year only 40,000 netbooks were sold in India, and this year analysts expect that number to hit about 300,000. But in a country with around a billion people, that still seems like peanuts. One way PC makers are apparently looking to boost sales is by working with telecoms to bundle mini-laptops with 3G wireless internet service much the way they've started to do in the US, Europe, and Asia.

India's Business Standard reports that computer maker HCL Infosystems, Asus, and Dell are all working on deals with wireless carriers to bundle 3G enabled netbooks with 3G service.

As we've learned in other parts of the globe, over time you end up paying a lot more for a netbook with a 3G data plan even if the laptop is cheap or even free up front. But the cost of purchasing the netbook and data contract together is still usually cheaper than buying them each individually.
