Apple: The iPhone's Our Pocket-Sized Netbook

In case you had any illusions that Apple could maybe possibly somehow perhaps be making a tablet netbook, you must have missed yesterday's live coverage of the 9/9/09 Apple event. Case in point:

Yeah, that dude is trying to shove a Dell Inspiron Mini netbook into his pocket. As marketer Phil Schiller noted, "Not everybody's computer fits in your pocket, but ours really does."

Just about every comment Apple has made in months has been twisted by somebody into evidence that an Apple netbook is on the way. It would be a lot of fun, of course, but for now the iPhone and iPod are going to get all the attention.

And if you don't believe me, listen ot Apple COO Tim Cook back in January:

"…Right now, from our point of view, the products in there are principally based on hardware that's much less powerful than we think customers want, software technology that is not good, cramped keyboards, small displays. Et cetera. We don't think that people are going to be pleased with those type of products. But we'll see."

Better luck next year.
