Acer to Launch a Quad-core Tablet Next Year?

Acer president Jim Wong has confirmed through an interview for T3, a gadget website, that they are planning to launch at least one tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor. Unfortunately, no new details or specifications were laid down.

Netbooknews, on the other hand, spotted three tablets that may be in the works on the Acer support website.

The Acer Iconia Tab A700 may feature a Tegra 3 processor and a high resolution 1920 x 1200 pixel display.

The Acer Iconia A510 and A511 will both featue Tegra 3 chips and 1280 x 800 pixel displays. One model will be WiFi-only, while the other will have mobile broadband.

As of this time, the three tablets appear to be running Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

Lenovo 5, 7, & 10â€³ Tablets a.k.a. "LePad" in China

Lenovo is releasing a 5, 7 and 10 inch LePad Android tablets in China and they are weirdly named as the Lenovo LePad. It will be known as the IdeaPad in other countries, which are follow-ups to the current IdeaPad K1.

The LePad s2005 is a 5 inch device that resembles a lot like a smartphone. The big difference between this device and and other 5 inchers is that it can make phone calls. The closest device that can compare it to is the Samsung Galaxy Note.

This device comes with 800×600 pixel display and runs with Android 2.3.5. It is powered by 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual processor, 1GB RAM and 1680mAh battery. There is a front-facing camera at 1.3 MP, 5MP rear-facing camera as well as a micro-USB, micro-HDMI, micro-SD card ports and 4G HSPA+ radio,

This 7-inch tablet is powered with 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor, a gig of RAM, 1280×800 pixel IPS display and Android 3.2.

The tablet sports 1.3 front-facing camera, and has higher resolution 8MP rear camera. The tablet should last around 8 hours with 3790mAh battery. This device can't make phone calls but China Unicom offers a 3G model.

10 inches is as large as this line up of tablet goes and at 10 inches it will come in at 1280 x 800 pixel display will run for 11 hours with a rather large 7560mAh battery. Other than that, the specs are the same as the other two tablets and it will be running Android 3.2.

Eee Pad MeMo Set to Go?

Iterations of the ASUS Eee Pad Memo has been around June. At first, this device is a 3D with a remote control that is used as a phone with a transparent glass display. At CeBit they 3D was dropped as well as the transparent glass display, since both features are somewhat immature and would just bump up the price. This ASUS 7-incher is finally heading into the streets this January.

MeMo includes MeMic Bluetooth as a companion and is used to make calls, listen to music and can act as media report. This little device is part of the reason why the MeMo has been delayed. Like the Pad Phone, the ASUS Eee Pad Memo is offered through carriers.

The ASUS Eee Pad Memo is to be released with Ice Cream Sandwich. MeMo is set to be launched with ICS.

Acer Predicts Very Low Cost of Ultrabooks by 2013

Ultrabooks is not yet the hottest thing in the laptop market currently. Sure, the Ivy Bridge processors aren't out yet hence the lukewarm reception. But as soon as March 2012 arrives, the Ivy Bridge arrives and Ultrabooks will start to kick in. Once this happens, there will be 30-50 new ultrabook models to come out to the open.

Early adopters always suffer the high-priced unstable products. Lower prices and bug-free devices come to those who wait. Jim Wong, Acer's president, predicts that by Q2 2012 ultrabook prices will be between $799 and $899 20% cut since launch. Ultrabook prices are expected to go down as much as $499 by 2013. Manufacturers are moving towards ultra-thin form factor that making large laptops seem undesirable. If time comes that netbook does survive the Ultrabooks onslaught, netbook pricing will have to be free.

Android 4.0 Runs on X86

Google released Android 4.0.1 specifically for x86 chipsets. The Android X86 initiative has been in the works for a while and its good to realize that any Intel tablets or Smartphones will suddenly run Ice Cream sandwich. Android wants to run on both Intel and AMD that they will port their OS to both architecture.

With any new release, the OS is not fully stable with several bits missing such as sound, camera, ethernet and hardware acceleration for Intel chips. AMD chipsets, though, can have Wi-Fi, sound and hardware acceleration.

Exynos 5250 Soon Starts Production

A Tegra 3 tablet is already out in the market but Samsung comes up with a reminder that they too are aggressive in the Android tablet space. The next-gen Exynos 5250 chipset features a 2GHz, dual-core ARM Cortex A15 CPU and a GPU solution which is capable of a 3D display 2560×1600 pixel resolution.

SammyHub explains that the Exynos 5250 graphics is four times more powerful than its previous gen and this chipset will start its production on next year's Q2.

Eee PC 1015BX's RAM Soldered Hard

Consumers who bought the ASUS Eee PC 1015BX was surprised to discover that the netbooks RAM is soldered into the motherboard of the netbook. This is certainly a cost-cutting measure from ASUS.

Some users took advantage of a good deal on the netbook as it is powered with 1.33 GHZ, dual-core AMD C-60 processor, 2 GB RAM and 500 GB HDD for € 299.90.

It is possible that other variations of the 1015BX in o ther countries might suffer the same fate. However, official confirmation has not been released yet.

Samsung NC110 and N102S

It has been reported that Samsung will, sadly, move out of the netbook market starting early next year. Before that time arrives, Samsung will send out to new models for everyone's sake. The two new netbooks from Samsung is the Samsung NC110 and the N102S. The NC110 will feature a Cedar Trail Dual processor clocked at 1.6GHz.

The N102S will feature an off-road map CPU, the N2100, which is slated for the low-end netbook. This won't be the first time that Intel has created an off-roadmap CPU. The Atom N280 was the first such Atom processor to our knowledge. Samsung is upgrading the N102S netbook with the CPU set to take over the N435 found in N102S which is running in a fairly slow 1.33 GHz.

Other N102S details include 10.1 inch non-glossy display which has 1024×600 resolution, a gig of RAM, Bluetooth and 320 GB hard drive. Webcam is also included as well as Windows 7 Starter Edition. The images of the N102S reveals two USB 2.0 ports, card reader and combined headset microphone. The bottom panel is easily removable for memory and hard drive upgrades.

Gigabyte T1006 Cedar Trail Netbook Shows Up at the FCC

Gigabyte is known for producing convertible tablet-style netbooks for quite a few years now. Although a bit bulkier, they look like a regular netbook. However, the displays are attached to the base of the computer with a swivel rather than two hinges. This way, the screen can be rotated up to 180 degrees and it can be folded down over the keyboard to use the computer as a tablet.

Apreviously unannounced Gigabyte netbook hits the FCC website this week. The Gigabyte T1006 looks like a minor update to the company's latest convertible.Looking at it closer, you will find out that the key difference is the Intel Atom Cedar Trail chip.

It's not clear, though, which new Intel Atom processor the T1006 will have. The user manual suggests that the computer uses Intel GMA 3650 graphics.

Other specifications include:
